By Anonymous on Jun 22, 2015 03:02 pm Most yoga classes in the west fall under the category of Hatha Yoga, which from Sanskrit roots means: Ha, the sun and Tha, the moon. As the sun and moon are opposites, it is opposing actions that bring balance to many practices, both on and off the mat. On the mat, opposing actions within an alignment allow space, balance literally, traction, and grounding. Off the mat, we remember sour practice and learn to balance work with rest, revving up energies that are warming and exciting and cooling practices, activity and surrender. Ultimately, our intuition will sense the need for the balance of the opposition - the key is to listen and follow.
